The Nittany Lion Fund, LLC, founded in 2005, is a student-managed investment fund with over $4 million in investor assets. The Fund is modeled after the S&P 500 and holds approximately 40-50 mid-large cap stocks. Fund managers conduct both qualitative and quantitative analysis when researching equity investments and each holding is selected through a structured voting process. The five executive board members, two portfolio analytics specialists, ten lead analysts, ten associate analysts, and five MBA analysts that run the fund are chosen each year from the membership of The Penn State Investment Association (PSIA), a student organization, through a competitive interview process. Professor J. Randall Woolridge of the Finance Department is CEO of the Fund and is in charge of presiding over the student fund managers. The Nittany Lion Fund, LLC is overseen by a Board of Directors who are appointed by senior administrators of Penn State. The Board of Directors include Ed Hintz, J. Randall Woolridge, David Branigan, J. David Rogers, Arthur Miltenberger (Chairman) and James Thomas.
The Penn State Investment Association (PSIA) is the student organization that assists the Nittany Lion Fund, LLC and is open for students of all majors and experience levels to join. It is a highly interactive organization which enables students to gain hands on experience investing in the stock market with a group of their peers. By means of their own research and in depth analysis, PSIA members will help establish and maintain an extensive portfolio. This organization, through its unique structure, exposes its members to a learning environment from which they can gain knowledge to enhance their personal investment power.
